BORDER BOOK FESTIVAL
FEATURED WRITER AND ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES

CÉSAR ÍVAN

I am a visual artist as well as a musician. Currently living in El Paso, Texas. I work in various mediums that include: Oil-Acrylic painting, Metal, Wood, Mosaics, Mural, Computer Graphics and Handmade Calaca marionettes.

I have been in numerous shows in and outside El Paso. Currently I am working on a public art project for the city of El Paso, Texas. I am also working on a metal project for the Coalition for the Homeless in El Paso.

I was just accepted as a finalist for the largest juried show in North America for drawing and painting for Texas artists. The Hunting Art Prize was established in 1981, and emerged as one of the United Kingdom's leading art competitions before relocating to Houston in 2006. Today, the commitmrent upon which it was originally built remains as strong as ever: To provide artists the recognition they have earned, the sponsorship they deserve, and the opportunity to have their work viewed and discussed by as broad an audience as possible. The panel of jurors that narrowed the 1,400 submissions to the final 137 will reconvene in April to determine the winner.

In addition to being a visual artist, I also play various instruments that include: Flamenco guitar, bass guitar and percussion instruments. I was a founding member of the group "Fronteras No Mas". I also played with rumba flamenco group "Sangre Gitana."

Paintings currently on display in El Paso at: Public Grounds Coffee House

Hand-made calaca marionettes at: Cinco Punto Books

In New Mexico at The Mesilla Cultural Center and Galería Tepín
