Armando Cepeda

Originally from El Paso, Texas, Armando Cepeda is an award winning artist, writer and educator from Riverside, California.   He teaches Digital Imaging/Graphic Design at Lincoln Continuation High School in Riverside.   He is the proud father of two sons, Armando Marcos and Mario Ricardo.   As the oldest of 10 children, he has learned early in life the value of patience and sharing. These are virtues that are reflected in his classroom on a daily basis.

Upon graduating from high school he joined the United States Air Force and was stationedat Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California. After his service, he studied biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara and then won a scholarship to attend the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.   He has worked as a graphic designer for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, and other aerospace agencies throughout Southern California.

As an educator, he enjoys teaching "Visual Literacy," the art of communicating ideas and images through high quality drawings and sketches.   His claim is that anyone can be taught to draw well and is pleased to make believers out of people who say that they "cannot draw a straight line."   He is most committed to the advancement of higher education and vocational training for all students, especially minority students who are dropping out of high school at an alarming rate.

He continues to inspire and motivate students to believe in themselves and to achieve their biggest dreams.

As an artist, Armando's work proudly reflects everyday images of Labor, Education and Mexican culture.   He enjoys creating promotional posters for education conferences such as the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project in Sacramento and Migrant Education, U.S. Department of Education.   He is also writing a collection of short stories about growing up in El Paso.   Armando has won numerous awards and prizes for his artwork and for the last ten years, he has been conducting motivational art workshops for school districts throughout the U.S.
